(IDIOM AND PHRASE)R

RACK
     RACK AND RUIN :complete decay and destruction. the house has gone
to rack and rain.

     ON THE RACK : in distress. he  was on the rack until he received

RAG
      RAG-TAG AND BOBTAIL : common people. he used to bring all the
rag-tag and bobtail into the house.

racket.

       OF THE RAIL : disorganised. my mind is off the rail these days.

RAIN
       RAIN CATS AND DOGS : to rain very hard. it is rainig cats and
dogs-the streets are flooded.

       RAIN CHECK : a promise to repeat an invitation at a later time.
rakesh said" i am sorry you cannot come to dinner this evening , deve,
i will give you a rain check.

       AS RIGHT AS RAIN : perfectly. all right; completely well. your
daughter has a slight cold. keep her in bed and she will be(as) right
as rain in a couple of days.

       RAIN OR SHINE : in all weathers. he must come here in rain or shine.

        TANK RANK OF : take precedence of. the president takes rank of

        A KING'S RANSOM : a vast amount of money. she would not marry
him for a king's ransom.

RANT
       RANT AND RAVE : to talk angrily about something. he is still
ranting and raving about the damage to his car.

RAT
       RAT ON : to betray. the police know we are here, someone must
have ratted on us.

       RAT RACE :a crowded, or disorderly rush. the dance last night
was a rate race. it was too noisy and crowded.

RATE
       AT ANY RATE : in any circumstances; at all events. he must come
at any rate.

       AT THE RATE OF  :at the speech of. the car is running at the
rate of forty kilometer an hour.

RAW
       IN THE RAW : in the natural state. you see nature in the raw in
the jungle.

make a summary of it,try to read the passage between lines.

        READ UP ON : to learn by study. i must read up on his this
before my exam.

        READ INTO : to understand to have meaning which is not
actually stated, and may not be intended. you are reading more into
his speech than he intended.

        READ  THE RIOT :to give someone  a strong warning. the boys
were late to class and the teacher read the riot act to them.

REALITY
         IN REALITY : actually, in fact. she thought him perfect; in
reality he was selfish and vain.

REAL
        FOR REAL : geniune; true. he says he is got a new bike, but i
donot know if that is for real.

           ROLL ARROUND : to return at a regular or usual time. when
winter rolls arround, outcome the skis and skates.

           ROLL OF HONOUR : one who sacrificed their lives for the
country. the name of nehru is at the top of in the roll of honour.

           A ROLLING STONE : a person who does not stick to one job. a
rolling stone gathers moss.

          ROMP HOME : to wind easily. after scoring the first goal,
the team ramped home to an easy victory.

ROOF

head.

your sister-in-law.

         ROUGH DIAMOND : an uneducated but worthy person. mrs rajinder
is a rough diamond, but she knows how to cook.

         ROUGH ON : severe on; a hardship for. ravinder's daughter has

road. i got caught in the rush hour this morning.

       NOT WORTH A RUSH :  useless. i donot know how he has been
appointed as secretary. he is not worth a rush.

       RUSH HEADLONG : move into something rashly, without proper
thought. he rushed headlong into a new enterprise, and was soon in
great financial trouble.
