idiom and phrase K

KEEL
    (a)keel over: to fall over. She seemed to be perfectly well and
then she just keeled over in the middle of the kitchen.

    (b)Be, keep on an even keel: to be,keep or remain in calm and
untroubled state. He kept the  business on an even keel in spite  of
the many changes in staff.

KEEN
    (a)keen price: very low prices. The days of keen prices are over.

       keen set: hungry. I donot like people keen set at money.

       As keen as mustard: very eager or enthusiastic. My young
sononly took up skiing last year,but he's as keen as  mustardd ans
skis every week-end now.

       keen eye : fully alive. One must have  a keen eye to be
successful in life.

KEEP
      To keep company : to associate with. He will keep company with
you on the journey to mumbai.

      To keep an eye on : to be  careful about; to watch a thing or
person. You should keep an eye on  this man. he is cunning.

      keep away form : not  go near. keep away from that animal.

      keep out of : stay away. keep out of out room.

      keep it up : to carry on doing something at the same speed or as
well as one is doing it at present. Your work is good----keep it up.

      keep in with : to remain friendly with. He's good idea to keep
in with the police in case you need ther help one day.

      keep house : to do the necessary things in a household. Since
their mother dies, asha and her brother keep house for their father.

      keep on : persist on ; repeat one's present actions. Please do
not keep on asking silly question.

      To keep pace with : to get on equally. We will try to keep pace with you.

      To keep a good table : hospitable. Some people are fond of
keeping a good table.

      keep to : adhere. He must keep to his promise.

      keep dark : conceal. I am going out with ram tonight, but please
keep it dark.

      keep as holiday : dedicate. I keep august 15th as holiday.

      keep at: is to continue doing. If he will only keep at his
work,he will soon finish it.

      for keeps : permanently. She's coming home tomorrow for keeps.

      keep on at: to urge constantly. She kept on at me to write to him.

      keep  to oneself: not to tell any one. He kept his conclusions to himself.

      keep a civil tongue in one's head : speak respectfully and
politely. Remember to keep a civil tongue to your head whne you are
speaking to older people.

      keep down : keep from progressing or growing; keep within
limits, control. The children could not keep their voices down.

      keep pace : to go as fast, go at the same rate; not get behind.
When they go for a walk, aditya was to take long steps to keep pace
with his father.

      keep tabs on: to keep a record of. The goverment tries to keep
tabs on all the animals in the park.

      keep back: is to reserve or conceal. I will keep nothing back from you.

      keep together : is not to part as under. They agreed to keep
together during the evening.

      keep guard : watch. You keep guard, while i go and find a policeman.

      keep in with : remain on good terms with, usually with some
definite motive. Mohan is rich and successful, and  i want to keep in
with him.

      keep from : abstain & from;remain away from. please keep from
liquor.please keep from liquor.

      keep up with : not to fall behind, to keep pace with. I cannot
keep up with you, you walk, too fast.

      keep track : to know about charges. What day of the weeks is it?
i can't keep track.

      keep time : to show the right time. My watch has not kept good
time since i droped it.

      keep distance :stay away from. The drivers should always keep
distance from other vehicles.

      keep one's counsel: keep it secret. Please keep this counsel.

      keep up: to go one, not stop, continue. The rain kept up for two
days and the roads were flooded.

KEY

      The key positionn : an important position. He has the key
position in the office.

      Silver key : money used as a bribe. The silver key opens every door.

      keyed up : excited; tense. The actress always gets keyed up
before a performance.

KICK

       Kick up a row : quarrel. If i refuse to go to the picture, my
wife is to kick up a row.

       Kick the bucket : die. Our dog has kicked the bucket.

       For kicks : in order to get a thrill; for fun. These young
criminal beat people up  for kicks.

KILL

       To kill two birds with one stone : To serve two purposes simultaneously.

       A killing pace: exhausting. Madan is working at a killing pace.

kind

      of a kind: the same kind. We had tea of a kind.

      in kind : in the same way or with the same treatment. He spoke
rudely to her and she replied in kind.

      nothing of the kind: not at all what is/was expected. I thought
he would be  helpful , but he was nothing of the kind.

      take it kind: feel it as kindness. Take it kind that i have come
to see you.

king

         kings of birds: the eagle. Guru govind  singh had a king of
birds as his pet.

         king of metals : gold. The kind of metals is now seldom seen.

         the king of beasts: loin. lion is the king of beasts.

         king log: to do nothing king. Many youth are king logs.

kiss

         to kiss one's hand: kill. When the train moved , he kissed
his wife's hand.

         kiss away: to remove tears by kissing. She kissed away the baby.

kite

         fly a kite: to start a rumour about a new project.It was
difficult to tell if the charges he was talking about were being
seriously considered or if he was just flying a kite.

kitten

         as weak as a kitten: very weak. She was as weak as a kitten
after her illness.

knock

         knock cold: to make unconscious by a blow. The beam swung
round, hit him on the back of the head and knocked him cold.

         knock back: to eat or drink. He knoked back three pins of
beer in the space of ten  minutes.

         knock on the head : kill. He was knocked on thee head during the war.

         knock out : render incapable of further fighting. I was
knocked out in fifteen minutes.

         knock up : make ill or unfit. She has been knocked up by the news.

         knock off : to cease from. His health compels  him to knock off work.

know

         know better: to be too wise or well taught. He should have
known better than to trust them.

         there is knowing: it is impossible to know. It is very
exciting going to one of his parties- there's knowing who will be
there.

         known as : going by the name. Gandhiji was popularly known as bapu.

         know about: have information about. Do you know about mrs
kapoor's accident.

         know a thing or two: be shrewd. Papu is a smart lad, he knows
a thing or two.

         know nothing: ignorant person. Suraj is a know-nothing.

         know how: faculty to knowing  how. He has the know how of his business.

         you never know: it is possible. Will she come? i don't think
so, but never know.

knowledge

         to my knowledge: so far I know. To the best of my knowledge
he is an honest man.

         come to knowledge : to be discovered by. It has come to my
knowledge - never mind how- that some of my pupils were not in school
yesterday.
