FWADE
      WADE THROUGH BOOK : read it despite dullness. the students wade
through thier book.

       WADE INTO : attack energetically. the pakistan wade into indian

      WAGE WAR : fight a war. it is many years now since war was waged
in pakistan.

WAIT
      WAIT ON TABLE : to serve food. the campers took turns waiting on table.

      WAIT UPON :attend to. the waiters wait upon their patrons.

      WAIT UP :stay out of bed. do not wait up for me. i will be late tonight.

WALK
      WALK OUT :to go on strike. when the company wouldd not give them
higher pay , the workers walkked out.

      WALK THE FLOOR : to walk one direction and then the other across
the floor. mr rakesh walked the floor, trying to reach a decision.

      WALK OFF : depart; leave. he walked off from the meeting.

      WALK OUT ON : to abandon. he's walked out on his wife/ responsibilities.

      WALK INTO: thrash; abuse. please do not walk into the child.

      TO WALK THE STREETS : to be prostitute. in this town , many
girls of well-to-do families walk the streets.

      GO TO THE WALL : to be defeated in competition. severall small

WANE
      ON THE WANE : becoming less. his power in one the wane.

WAR
       WAGE WAR : conduct war. pakistan waged a war against india in 1965.

       WAR TO THE KNIFE : a bitter and ruthless struggle.it was war to
the knife between the two women who loved him.

       WAR OF NERVES : threats of war. pakistan is always waging a war
of nerves on india.

WARM
      WARM UP : to become friendly and interested. it takes an hour or
so far some children to strangers.

WASH
      WASH DOWN : eat hard food with drinks. wash down your food with
tea or coffee.

      WASH OUT :remove by washing. i have washed out the ink stain on
your coat.

      WASH ONE'S HANDS FOR : to give up altogether. i have washed my
hands of the whole business.

      WASH ONE'S HAnDS OF : to withdraw from or refuse to be
responsible. we washed out hands of politics long ago.

WATCH
       WATCH OUT : to be careful . watch out, the police are coming.

       ON THE WATCH : in a state of watchfulness. the police are on
the watch for thieves.

       WATCH OVER : to take care; to guard. please trust in god, and
he will watch over you.

       WATCH UP :sit up at night. i have watched up many nights.

WATER
       UNDER WATER :below the surface. there is much under water.

       LIKE WATER : copiously . don't waste money like water.

       HOLD WATER : to be correct. your theory does not hold water.

       IN HOT WATER : in trouble. mohan, as usual , is in hot water these days.

       HOLD WATER : to have effect; to be justified. your argument
does not hold water.

      OF THE FIRST WATER : to the greatest degree. the defendant is a
liar of the first water.

WAY
      IN A WAY : accoring to one's view point. in a way,driver's not
to blame for the accident.

      GET OUT OF THE WAY : obstruct or the reverse. please get out of my way.

      HAVE ONE'S OWN WAY : do as one wishes. i want to go to bombay,
and i mean to havve my own way.

     IN A BAD WAY : in a bad physical. he is  in a bad way these days.

      BY THE WAY : incidentally. by the way, i am leaving early morning.

      UNDER WAY : beginning; starting; moving. we have several plans under way.

      ONE THE WAY : comming; about the happen; being prepared. there
is a new baby on the way in out family.

      MAKE WAY :retire from office. he shall make way for a younger man.

      WAYS AND MEANS : methods of providing money ,resources.you must
find the ways and weans of establishing a factory. you must use any
ways and means you can think of.

WEAL
       WEAL AND WOE:in happiness or sorrow. books area delightful
source of consolation in weal and woe.

WEAR
     WEAR AWAY :impair. the day began to wear away.

     WEAR OFF : diminish and finally disappear. the effects of the
drug will soon wear off.

     WEAR OUT : render useless by wear. my coat is worn out.

     WEAR AND TEAR:wastage.you must provide for the wear and tear of
your machinery.
WEAVE
      GET WEAVING :to start working or moving quickly. we'll have to
get weaving if we want to catch the train.

WELL
      WELL UP : knowing a great deal. he's very well up in antiques, you know.

      WELL SET UP :fit; physically well constructed. she was a well
set up woman of fifty.

      AS WELL: also. please come early, and bring your uncle as well.

      WELL FAVOURED : handsome. a well favoured man opened the door.

       WHILE BACK : at a  time several weeks or months in the past. we

       RUN WILD : to behave without control or discipline. they let
their children run wild.

       SPREAD LIKE WILDFIRE : to spread extremely fast. the news of
the invasion spread like wildfire.

      HAVE ONE'S WILL : obtain what one desires. the children have their will.

      A WILL OF ONE'S OWN :spirit; determination; of one's own. my son
is only a month old, but he's already shown that he has a will of his
own.

      WILLY- NILLY :whether one wishes or not. he had to go willy-nilly.

WIN

english literature.

WIND
      GO LIKE WIND : swiftly. an aeroplane always goes like the wind.

      IN THE WIND : an indicated possibility. it is in the wind that

      TO SEE WHICH WAY  THE WIND BLOWS : to see where the advantage
lies.let us see which way the wind blows.

      RAISE THE WIND : to get enough money. i will buy some shares in
his company if i can raise the wind.

     TO SAIL CLOSE TO THE WIND :to take risk. he sails very close to
the wind in his business.

saying something. i'll make him eat his words.

      WORD FOR WORD  literally; exactly. madan tried to translate the

      WORN OUT : very tired. his wife is worn out after looking after
the children.

       THE WORSE FOR WEAR : tired. you look a bit the worse for wear
after last night's party.

your worst-you'll never manage to defeat me.

       WORTH A CENT :worth anything; of an value. the book was old and
it was not worth a cent.

       WORTH WHILE : worth spending time or trouble over. i would try
to see the business, but it isn't worth while.

WRAP
       WRAPPED UP IN : entirely devoted. he is wrapped up in his business.

       WRAP UP : to finish completely. i went to aberdeen to wrap up
my firm's deal with oil companies.

WRITE
       WRITE OFF : to destroy completely or damage it beyond repair.
he wrote his car off in a bad accident.

       WRITE UP : a report or stay in a newspaer. there was a write up
of the accident in the newspaper.

WRONG
      GET WRONG : to misunderstand. i must have got it  wrong- i
thought you were coming tomorrow.

      GO WRONG : to make a mistake. where did i go wrong in that sum?

      IN THE WRONG :guilty of an error or injustice. she is completely
blameless. you are the one who's in the wrong!
