(IDIOM AND PHRASE)I

ICE
     BREAK THE ICE :to overcome the shyness etc, in a new
situation.Let's break the ice by inviting our new neighbours for a
meal.

     CUT NO ICE  :to have no effect. This sort of flattery cuts no ice with me.

     ON ICE  : put aside for use, attention etc. at a laer date. We'll
put these plans on ice for the time being.

IDEA
      FIXED IDEA  :a brief that no argument will alter. He was a fixed
idea that he is popular.

ILL
     ILL WITH  : to fall it. I have been ill with malaria.

     ILL ASSORTED  : incompatible; badly matched. Raj and surekha were
an ill assorted couple.

     TAKE IT ILL  : to be offended( that). She will take it ill if you
refusse her invitation.

     TO BE TAKEN ILL  :to fall ill. My brother has been suddenly taken
ill this morning.

IMAGE
      THE VERY IMAGE  : exactly like. He is the very image on his father.

IMPRESSION
           MAKE A GOOD IMPRESSION  :behave in a manner which will
create admiration and respect. He made a very good impression when he
applied for the job.

           BE UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT  :to have the feeling or idea
that. I was under the impression that you were paying for this meal.

IN
         IN BRIEF  :in short. Please tell me the matter in brief.

         IN FULL SWING  : in full progress. He is in full swing these days.

several things at the same time. Even if this project fails, he has
severall other irons in the fire.

       STRIKE WHILE THE IRON IS HOT  :to act while the situation is
favourable. On hearing of his inheritance she struck while the iron
was hot as asked him to repay the money he owed her.

ISSUE
        WITHOUT MALE ISSUE  :without any son. She is without male issue.

        AT ISSUE  :under discussion. That is the point at issue right now.

       MAKE AN ISSUE OF   :to make the subject of an argument. I don't
agreee with your proposal, but i don't want to make an issue of it.

        THE POINT OF ISSUE  : the question that is being discussed.
The point at issue in not whether we woud like a holiday, but whether
we can afford one.

        TAKE ISSUE WITH  : to disagree with. I take issue with you on
the question of education.

        SIDE ISSUE  :a subordinate issue arising from main business.
There are many side issue in this murder.

ITCHING
          ITCHING PALM   : a  greed for money . More and more people
of the world to day suffer form an itching plam.

IVORY
        AN IVORY TOWER  :a place of retreat from the world and one's
fellows. A philosopher lives in an ivory tower.
